PLEASANT HILL, CA (October 24, 2017) - The senior professionals of the Northern California PGA (NCPGA) won their sixth straight Staedler-Jetter Cup, cruising to a 17.5-10.5 win over the Northern California Golf Association (NCGA) senior amateur team at Contra Costa Country Club.
For the senior ams, Casey Boyns won his singles match 3 and 2, while Terry Foreman and Jim Knoll each earned half a point. The NCGA’s super seniors (Frank Pieper, Mark Miller, Herb Jensen and Chuck Richesin) all either won or halved their singles matches.
The amateurs got off to a good start, taking the Monday morning Chapman session 4.5-2.5. But the pros took complete control of the matches in the afternoon Four-Ball session, taking 6 of 7 points (5 wins and 2 halves) to build a three-point lead going into the Tuesday Singles.
Needing to win 9 of 14 points in the Singles matches, the amateurs instead lost the session 9-5. It was a good day for the NCPGA, as they won both the Staedler-Jetter Cup and the Hanna-Wehrman Cup (over the NCGA amateur team), sweeping the matches for the first time in 21 years.
“Congratulations to the NCPGA,” said NCGA captain Tom Bone. “Everyone played well.”
Boyns and Miller were the leading point earners for the NCGA, winning 2 out of 3 points.
Even after the loss, NCGA still leads the all-time Staedler-Jetter Cup series, 14-10-3.
