CHATTANOOGA, TN (October 5, 2017) - Danny Green shot the low round of the day, an even-par 71, to overtake second-round leader David Apperson and pull away from the field to win the Tennessee Senior Amateur Championship by five shots at Chattanooga Golf & Country Club.

Normally 3 days of ideal weather leads to low scores but that was not the case this week, as Green was the only player to finish the event at even par in either the Senior or Super Senior division.

Starting the day one shot behind, Green and Jeff Walker were both able to tie up the tournament on the second hole of the day. Apperson struggled throughout and fell out of contention after the first few holes.

The defending champion Tim Jackson made a run early in the round to give Green a scare but a bogey on 14 and a double bogey on 15 derailed his chance of making it back-to-back championships.

Green played solid all three days on greens that could best be described as lightning. Despite bogeying the 54th hole of the championship, he was able to turn his one-shot deficit in to a five shot victory marking his 18th Tennessee Golf Association Championship and third Tennessee Senior Amateur Championship.

With the win he pulls within one of Jackson in the all-time wins list. Jackson Tim Jackson wins TN Senior Match, 19th State Victory

In the Super Senior division, it was Neil Spitalny who was in complete control throughout. Starting the day with a seven shot lead, he got off to a rocky start but got back to playing golf like he did the previous two rounds when he built his lead. Mike Nixon was able to play solid and give Spitalny a scare through the front nine but never was able to get it closer than 2 shots.

Spitalny ended up winning the tournament by 5 shots to successfully defend his title and win his 3rd Senior or Super Senior Amateur in as many years.
