NOBLESVILLE, IN (August 31, 2017) - For the fourth time in his career, Terry Werner captured the IGA Senior Amateur Championship, this time with a score of 1-under par 70-71-141 on the par-71 layout at Harbour Trees G&BC in Noblesville. “I love this event,” said Werner. “It’s just a great event for me. It suits me, and I’ve won here before so it’s like coming back home.”

Werner entered the final round tied for the lead with Dave Williamson and built a two shot lead at the turn. However, early on the back nine, things got a bit interesting. “It got a little more interesting than I’d like,” said Werner with a laugh. “I just hit a couple wayward shots and it can cost you a couple shots here and there.” Those shots led to Werner bogeys on 12 and 14, and he found himself tied with Williamson once again. The pair bogeyed the par-4 16th before heading to the par-5 17th deadlocked. It was at the 17th that Werner made another birdie to grab the lead for good. “That was a real good birdie and I was really happy with that,” said Werner.

For Werner, the win also wrapped up his second consecutive IGA Senior Player of the Year award. “That’s one of my goals every year and it means a lot, especially in Indiana. There’s a lot of great senior amateurs and it means the world to me,” said Werner of securing the season long accomplishment. “I love playing with all these guys and if you’re playing good in Indiana, you’re playing good golf.”

Williamson (E) finished alone in second with Chuck Wenning (+1) and Skip Runnels (+2) behind him. Rex Kottkamp (+3) and David Massey (+3) rounded out the top five.

In the Super Senior Amateur Championship for players 65 and older, it was Joe Hahn capturing his first IGA win. Hahn, who trailed Wayne Hunter by a shot entering the final round, carded a 1-over-par 72 to win by two shots.
