23 Amateurs Advance to British Open Final Qualifying
VARIOUS SITES ACROSS ENGLAND, SCOTLAND AND IRELAND (June 26, 2017) - 23 amateur golfers moved one step closer to a spot at Royal Birkdale for the 146th Open Championship, as over 1200 golfers attempted regional qualifying at 13 sites across England, Scotland and Ireland.

Highlights of regional qualifying included:

Ben Hutchinson of England shot a four-under 67 to be the only amateur to advance from 79-for-6 Alwoodley Golf Club qualifier.

Matthew Jordan, who recently won the prestigious St. Andrews Links Trophy, shot an even-par 72 and then got through a 3-for-2 playoff to advance from the 99-for-8 qualifier at West Lancashire golf Club. Three other Englishman also advanced: Joshua McMahon, Paul McFerran, and Sean Towndrow, who all shot one-under 71.

Three amateurs made it through the 111-for-8 Burhill Golf Club qualifier. Englishmen Peter Jackson (69) and Jacob Oakley (71) advanced, as did Xabier Gorospe of Spain. Oakley and Gorospe survived a four-for-three playoff for the final spots, with Grayson Huff of the United States having to settle for an alternate position.

Rhys Nevin-Wharton of England was the medalist at the 86-for-6 qualifier at Fairhaven Golf Club, shooting a six-under 66 to beat the field by three shots. Adam Stone of England was right behind in second at three-under 69.

Playing on his home course, Oliver Huggins advanced from the 108-for-8 qualifier at Frilford Heath by shooting a one-under 71.

Jacob McGoldrick shot a three-under 69 to make it through the 112-for-8 qualifier at Little Aston Golf Club. Two other Englishmen--Liam Phipps (70) and Philip White (71) also advanced.

Daniel Brown of Littlestone Golf Club in England shot a two-under 70 to advance from the 111-for-8 qualifier at Wildernesse Golf Club. Brown also had to get through a 4-for-3 playoff to claim his spot in the final qualifier.

Michael Pask of England shot a two-under 68, while his fellow countryman Jack Gaunt shot a 69 to make it out of the 71-for-5 qualifier at Luffenham Heath.

Rob Spence of England survived a 4-for-2 playoff at Northumberland Golf Club after shooting a two-under 70 in the 56-for-4 playoff.

Will Porter of Scotland shared medalist honors with a two-under 68 at the 52-for-4 qualifier at Panmure Golf Club.

Joshua Hilleard of England shot a four-under 68 at the 99-for-7 qualifier at Remedy Oak Golf Club. Also advancing was fellow Englishman Jamie Clare, getting through a 5-for-3 playoff after shooting a one-under 71.

Jack Hawksby of England medaled at the 101-for-8 qualifier at Sandy Lodge Golf Club, shooting a three-under 67 to top the field by one shot.

Rowan Lester of Ireland and Jake Hapgood of Wales both shot a one-under 71 at the 52-for-4 qualifier at The Island Golf Cub in Dublin, Ireland.

British Open Final Qualifying will be held on July 4 at five qualifying sites (four in England and one in Scotland), from which successful qualifiers will earn their place in the starting field at the 146th British Open at Royal Birkdale, July 20-23, 2017.
