BESSEMER, AL (June 9, 2017) - Ryan Mayberry shot a three-under 69 to extend his lead to two shots at the Alabama State Amateur at Bent Brook Golf Club.
Mayberry, a former golf coach at Samford University in Birmingham, came into the day with a one shot lead over the field after an opening round 66. A six birdie, three bogey round (including saving bogey after hitting in the water) allowed him to double that lead heading into round three.
Tyler Hitchner, who just finished his junior year at the University of Alabama, matched Mayberry's 69 and sits solo second at seven-under 137.
Four golfers--Taylor Eyster, Ben Fuller, Vic Kyatt III, and Drew Mathers--are tied for third at six under.
In all, seven of the top eleven players are from Birmingham.
The defending champion, Turk Pettit from Auburn, shot a 69 and is in 22nd at two-under 142.
69 players made the 36-hole cut, which fell at three-over 147.
