ST. LOUIS, MO (May 6, 2017) - Defending champion Sam Migdal, 2014 champion Phil Caravia and five-time champion Skip Berkmeyer all advanced Saturday to Sunday morning semifinal matches. Chad Niezing was the fourth competitor to advance to Sunday.

Migdal would defeat Kyle Szyhowski 5&4 in the morning on Saturday to easily move on. However, his afternoon match was a battle with Thomas Weaver. Weaver went 3-up early over Migdal thru holes. Migdal would battle back to take a 1up lead at 16 and win the match with a par on 18.

Fellow Norwood Hills Country Club member Phil Caravia would defeat Parker Goldman 4&2 in the morning. In the afternoon, it appeared Caravia was going to close our Hunter Parrish at the short Par 4 14th. Parrish would make a great up and down par to win 14 and then win 15, 16 and 17 to square the match. Caravia would close out the match with a par on 18.

Skip Berkmeyer needed extra holes in the morning against Steven Souchek, he would win in 19 holes. In the afternoon he faced 2016 Metropolitan Amateur Champion Andrew Pranger who advanced over Chris Kovach. Pranger would fall to Berkmeyer 3&2.

The final spot in the Semifinals would go to Chad Niezing. Niezing and Kevin Jeske, both 2016 US Mid-Amateur Qualifiers, would face off in the morning Saturday. Niezing moved on with a 2&1 victory. Tony Gumper would get Niezing in the afternoon. After Niezing went 2up through 2, Gumper got the match back to All Square at 10 and would remain that all the way to the 18th where Niezing would close out with a par.

It is a battle of the same club in the Semifinals Sunday, as Migdal and Caravia are both Norwood Hills CC members while Berkmeyer and Niezing each call The Legends CC home. The first semifinal match will go at 7:00a with the second set to go at 7:15 a.m. The final match will go approximately 11:30 a..m.
