LUFKIN, Texas (April 14, 2007)-- Senior Temple Cup co-chairman Jim Todd said he saw a playoff in the cards Saturday on the 18th green, as Lloyd Hughes was looking at a 10-foot birdie putt that would even the score for him and partner Corky Nelson with the team of Jerry Hudgins and Jimmy Chapman.

But before Hughes could even line up the shot, Hudgins slammed the door shut when he holed a 50-foot birdie putt to seal the deal with a final score of 68-68-70--206, 10-under-par.

"That was like a thunderclap right there, that had playoff written all over it," said Todd.

The day was marked with a noticable change in conditions, that made for one of the most unique tourneys in memory.

"I think this was the most unusual final round we've ever had," said Todd. "First, the weather, the wind was about 30 miles-per-hour and the temperature was in the 50's. It was brutal for April in Lufkin, Texas.

"Second, this was the most competitive final round for the number of people with a chance to win, there were 10 teams within 3-4 shots of the lead for most of the day."

In the super senior division, Frank Luke and Ken Smith went wire-to-wire with the victory.
