Top Teams tee off at the Amer Ari Invitational in Hawaii

WAIKOLA, HI (February 2, 2017) -- Seven of the top-25 teams in the final fall Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll are in the field this week at The Amer Ari Invitational being hosted by Waikoloa Kings' Course. Of the seven ranked teams in the field the highest is No. 4 Oklahoma State being led by junior Sam Stevens.

The remainder of the ranked teams in the field include No. 6 Stanford, No. 7 USC, No. 8 Auburn, No. 11 Texas, No. 17 Texas Tech and No. 22 Oregon.

Oregon is already playing in their second event of the spring season and they come in flying high following a win last week at the Arizona Intercollegiate. The event also saw Ducks redshirt senior Wyndham Clark pick up his first win since joining the program last fall.

Along with Clark a number of the best players in the country will be making there way around the par-72 7,074 yard Waikoloa Kings' Course. Some the headliners include Will Long (Auburn), Maverick McNealy (Stanford), Sean Crocker (USC), Doug Ghim (Texas), Gavin Hall (Texas), Brandon Wu (Stanford), Viraat Badhwar (Stanford), Franklin Huang (Stanford), Zach Bauchou (Oklahoma State) and Viktor Hovland (Oklahoma State).

The reminder of the 21 team field is rounded out by Georgia Tech, Colorado, UCLA, Oregon State, San Jose State, Hawaii-Hilo, Arizona State, St. Mary's, TCU, Pacific, Osaka Gakuin University, Chico State, UC Davis and Hawaii.

The Amer Ari Intercollegiate -- hosted by the University of Hawaii-Hilo -- has brought some of the best golfers in the nation to the west side of the Big Island annually since its inception in 1992. From Tiger Woods to Jordan Spieth to Matt Kuchar, the Amer Ari Intercollegiate has hosted a myriad of players through the years who have gone on to professional stardom.

The event was originally played at Hapuna Golf Course at Mauna Kea Resort before moving to the Waikoloa Beach Resort. The Amer Ari returned to Hapuna during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2024, the event was moved to Mauna Lani. The Amer Ari is a 54-hole collegiate men's event with individual and team competitions.
