BLUFFTON, SC (March 21, 2007)The local team of Gary Shimmin from Okatie and John Verity from Bluffton shot a second consecutive 65 for a two-day total of 130 and a four-shot victory in the 2007 SCGA Senior Four Ball Championship. Randy Johnson of Goose Creek and Joe Padgette from N. Charleston finished second at 134.
Shimmin and Verity teamed to win, but it was more like a one-man highlight show each day with Shimmin making six birdies the first day and Verity making seven birdies in the final round. The tandem combined for nines of 31-35 for their 7-under-par winning score of 65.
In the first flight Hilton Head’s Tommy Bell and Bluffton’s Joe Vignati took the top place with a total score of 138. After a long first day, defending champions Vic Hannon from Camden and Bob Stringer from Blythewood came back to win the second flight with a total of 142.
The 2007 SCGA Senior Four Ball Championship was played on the par 72 – 6,662 yard Hampton Hall Club in Bluffton, S.C. The field consisted of 64 two-man teams playing best ball format conducted over 36 holes. The Senior Four Ball Championship is one of 18 Major Championships conducted annually by the South Carolina Golf Association.
