NORTH AUGUSTA, SC (January 16, 2017) -- It was a day to remember for Colin Bowles at the Carolinas-Georgia Junior Golf Championship hosted by Mount Vintage Golf Club. Bowles used a bogey-free 6-under 66 final round to reach 8-under and overcome a four-stroke deficit at the start of the day.

The final day rally began early in the round with consecutive birdies on the 2nd and 3rd holes and then back-to-back birdies again on the 7th and 8th holes. After turning in 4-under 32 and 6-under overall Bowles continued his stellar performance with two back nine birdies and he carded what proved to be the winning birdie coming on the 16th hole.

Bowles has lived in Georgia for less then two years but he made a name for himself regionally by winning the Georgia Amateur last year as a 16-year-old.

The now 17-year-old has also represented Georgia on the national stage, playing in the 2016 USGA Men’s State Team Championship. According to the Albany Herald, Bowles already has college offers from West Virginia and has plans to visit Wake Forest. Bowles has previously visited Southern Georgia.

Wofford commit and first round leader Ryan Marter was forced to settle for second place after a 1-under 71 left him at 7-under. Marter didn't play poorly in the final round but a 14th hole bogey proved to be his downfall. During the round Marter birdied three times.

Nicholas Lyerly (-3) and Jack Massei (-3) were third while Mason Elmore (-1) and Drayton Stewart (-1) tied for fifth.

The Girls Division was won thanks to final round rally as well and it was Alexis Brindley claiming the title. Brindley was the only player to finish under-par, at 1-under, and she did it with a final round 4-under 68. On Monday Alexis Brindley birdied six times and bogeyed twice.

Amanda Sambach (+1) was second, Carolina Craig (+3) was third, Gracyn Burgess (+5) was fourth and Nicole Adam (+6); Caroline Cahill (+6) were fifth.
