Quarterfinals set at Australian Womens Senior

CHANNING VALE, Australia (October 26, 2016) --With the wind light and some occasional showers it was mostly the top-seeds moving on during the first day of match play at the Australian Women's Senior Amateur.

Leading qualifier Robyn Puckett easily accounted to 16th seed Louise Briers with a 4&3 win at Gosnells Golf Club.

Most top seeds won their matches except for Josie Ryan (5th seed) who lost to 12th seed Wendy O’Connell from Wantima Golf Club in Queensland.

Multiple-time winner Australian Women's Senior Amateur Sylvia Donohoe was taken to the 19th by Nicky Moon from the ACT.

2015 winner Sharon Dawson qualified 11th but was knocked out in first round by Helen Pascoe from Buninyong GC with a 3&2 victory.

Championship quarterfinal matches begin at 8:00 a.m. Thursday morning with the semifinals to follow in the afternoon.

The Australian Women's Senior Amateur Championship is open to players aged 55 years and over. Players contest 36-holes qualifying, with the leading 16 players progressing to elimination match play.
