PEBBLE BEACH, CA (October 17, 2016) -- The four-time defending champion NCPGA squad is in good shape heading into Tuesday’s final singles matches of the Staedler-Jetter Cup. But so too is the NCGA.

Following Monday’s Foursomes play at Poppy Hills Golf Course, the score was all knotted up 7-7. The big difference was the NCGA’s Herb Jensen and Frank Pieper pulling out a late 3 and 2 win over Rod Souza and Glen Stubblefield.

The NCGA got earlier victories from the tandems of Casey Boyns and Randy Haag (6 and 5), Jim Knoll and Mark Morgan (1-up) and Bob Thomason and Chuck Richesin (7 and 5). The NCPGA, meanwhile, had collected wins from the tandems of Shawn McEntee and Stuart Smith (2 and 1), Don Thames and John Grund (5 and 4) and Michael Paul and Mike Cook (5 and 4).

There will be 14 Singles matches on Tuesday, with 14 points up for grabs.

In the morning the NCPGA grabbed an early 4-3 lead thanks to a great start. The NCPGA would win four of the first five matches out, including victories from the tandems of Shawn McEntee and Stuart Smith (6 and 5) and Scott Hoyt and Dana Jetter (3 and 2).

The NCGA rallied at the end of the morning session, getting victories from Super Seniors Chuck Richesin and Bob Thomason (4 and 3) and Herb Jensen and Frank Pieper (2 and 1). Jensen was the inaugural NCGA Super Senior Player of the Year in 2015.
