ADELAIDE, Australia (October 13, 2016) -- Kym Olsen fired the only under-par score on the final day of the Australian Senior Amateur and as a result he turned a one-stroke deficit into a four shot victory.

ā€œIā€™m very proud to win a national championship,ā€ Olsen, the Queensland senior winner told Golf Australia.

Playing at Kooyonga Golf Club, Olsen shot a final round 2-under 70 to finish 5-over and four clear of second place finisher David Schultz. Olsen, who was 7-over to start the day, reached 5-over quickly with two birdies on the front side and from there it was all about maintaining. Of course that is easier said then done but a two birdie, two bogey closing nine did the trick for Olsen.

Schultz, from Canada, held at least a share of the lead each of the first two days, however he closed with a 3-over 75 to finish 9-over and alone in second. The round started well for the 2013 Canadian Senior Stroke Play winner with a birdie on the 4th but four bogeys followed.

Gregory Rhodes was third at 14-over, Michael Barltrop was fourth at 15-over while second round co-leader and three-time tournament winner Stefan Albinski was fifth at 16-over.

ROUND TWO RECAP

While first round leader David Schultz struggled, Stefan Albinski surged and now the two are tied for the Australian Senior Amateur lead. With 18-holes left both players are 6-over and one-stroke in front of Kym Olsen.

Schultz was even-par after the opening day at Kooyonga Golf Club but faltered with a second round 6-over 78. The Canadian was even-par through nine-hole before bogeying six times on the way in.

Stefan Albinski rebounded in a big way in the second round to take a share of the lead. Albinski shot a 10-over 82 in the first round before firing the round of the tournament, a 4-under 68. It was a quick start to the round for Albinski as he birdied Nos. 1, 2 and 3 before finishing the side with an eagle on the par-5 9th.

After turning in 5-under 32, Albinski cooled off to finish in 1-over 36.

Kym Olsen is third at 7-over while Gordon Claney and Martin Minogue are tied for fourth at 8-over.

ROUND ONE RECAP

Canadian David Schultz has taken the first round round lead at the Australian Senior Amateur. Schultz posted an even-par 72 to take a two-stroke advantage at Kooyonga Golf Club.

Shultz started his day birdie, bogey, birdie and after another birdie on the 11th he was 2-under for the round. A pair of bogeys on the way in dropped the 2013 Canadian Senior Stroke Play winner back to even-par for the day.

Matin Minogue is in second place following a 2-over 74. Minogue birdied once during his round, while bogeying three times.

Paul Chappell, Ian Peebles, David Gleeson and Kym Olsen are all 3-over and tied for third after 75's
