RICHMOND, VA (September 20, 2016) -- The Janney VCU Shootout at CCV Tuckahoe Creek Course was shortened to 36-holes due to heavy rain on Monday but that didn't prevent Virginia Tech from running away from the field during Tuesday's final round. In just two rounds of play the Hokies reached 28-under finish 10- strokes in front of James Madison at 18-under.

Virginia Tech was led by senior Joey Lane, who finished in a share for first with James Madison senior Ryan Cole. Both players were 10-under.

Lane fired matching 5-under 67's and recorded just two bogeys, both in the first round. During his bogey- free final round Lane, the winner of the Virginia State Amateur and Eastern Amateur over the summer, carded birdies on Nos. 1, 4, 5, 8 and 12.

Virginia Tech was pushed to the front of the leaderboard thanks to two other players in the top-10. Freshman Sarit Suwannarut posted 9-under and finished third while sophomore Logan Yates was tied for seventh at 7- under.

Ryan Cole held the 18-hole individual lead after a first round 6-under 66 before posting a 4-under 68 in round number two. In round one Cole had two runs of three straight birdies, first from Nos. 4-6 and then again on Nos. 16-18. The reigning CAA Golfer of the Year birdied five more holes during the final round and bogeyed his only hole of the tournament.
