FLORENCE, OR (September 14, 2016) -- Sean Packer of Seattle shot a 2-under par 70 in today’s second round of the 32nd Pacific Northwest Men’s Mid-Amateur to take sole possession of first place heading into tomorrow’s final round.

The championship is being held at Sandpines Golf Links in Florence, Ore., and is being conducted by the Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA).

Packer is the only player in the field to be under par after two rounds. His two-round total of 143 puts him two strokes ahead of Mike Haack of Bellevue, Wash.

Haack, who won this championship in 2009, was the first-round leader. After making the turn at 1-under in today’s second round, Haack seemed to have his game in hand, but he stumbled on the relatively benign par-5 12th hole. After hitting his tee shot into a fairway bunker, it took him two shots to get out, then he hit his fourth shot into the trees on the left which ended up being a lost ball. After the dust settled, his quadruple-bogey nine brought him back to the field. He finished the day with a 4-over 76, and now sits alone in second place, two shots back of Packer.

There are nine players within six shots of the lead.

The final round of the 54-hole championship will be held tomorrow, with the leaders teeing off at 10:30 a.m.
