FLORENCE, OR (September 13, 2016) -- Mike Haack of Bellevue, Wash. fired a 3-under-par 69 to grab the first round lead in the 32nd Pacific Northwest Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship, being held at Sandpines Golf Links.

Haack, who won this championship in 2009, had seven birdies and four bogeys on the day. Haack was named the Washington State Golf Association’s Men’s Mid-Amateur Player of the Year in 2013 and 2014.

Two shots behind Haack is Alex Stamey of Mill Creek, Wash., who finished the first round with a 1-under-par 71. Stamey also had seven birdies on the day, but a double-bogey on the par-4 10th hole set him back. He won this championship in 2001.

Haack and Stamey were the only two players in the field to finish the day under par.

The second round of the 54-hole championship will be held tomorrow, followed by the final round on Thursday.
