Coronado City Championship: Pitts wins at 5-under
CORONADO, California (November 26, 2006) -- Justin Pitts of Bakersfield backed
up his first round of 69 with a final round 70 to finish at 5-under-par for the
weekend, capturing the Coronado City Championship by 2-strokes over Sasan Shahi of Laguna Niguel. First round leaders (both shot 4-under-par 68) Steve Hakes and
Bill Borden shot 75 and 74 respectively, playing in the final group, opening
the door for Pitts, the Cal State Bakersfield player who posted his round playing
in the group in front of them. Defending champion Gerry Simoni of Carlsbad
tied Borden for third place at 2-under-par for the tournament. Simoni shot
the competitive course record, a 9-under-par 63, on his way to victory in 2005.
