SHEBOYGAN, WI (August 30, 2016) -- On the strength of a first round 5-under 66 Mark Bemowski captured the Wisconsin Senior Amateur. Bemowski finished 7-under and a comfortable five shots in front of Paul Zarek at Pine Hills Country Club.

During the final round Bemowski got off to a fast start with a 3-under 32. The 2004 U.S. Senior Amateur winner bogeyed the 2nd but responded with birdies on the next two holes and then the 8th and 9th.

On the backside Bemowski posted another birdie and two bogeys. In just 36-holes of golf Bemowski birdied 10 holes and eagled another.

With rounds of 71-69 Zarek finished 2-under and in second, Kevin Cahill was third at even-par while Ed Dzirbik Jr. and Robert Gregorski shared fourth at 3-over.

2004 U.S. Senior Amateur champion Mark Bemowski fired a first round 5-under 66 to take a four shot lead at the Wisconsin Senior Amateur.

Playing at Pine Hills Country Club, Bemowski birdied five holes and bogeyed four, however the highlights of the day by far were his two eagles. The first came on the par-5 6th with the second coming just two holes later on the par-4 8th.

The final three players in red figures will enter the last round 1-under and tied for second place. Ed Dzirbik Jr., Mike Murphy and Joe Blommel all carded 1-under 70's on Monday.

Another six players are sharing fifth place at even-par.

ABOUT THE Wisconsin Senior Amateur

This statewide 36-hole tournament, conducted for players aged 55 and older, was started in 1981 and is considered the finest senior event in the state. Competition for both gross and net awards is conducted in three different age divisions: Senior (55-64), Super-Senior (65-69) and Legends (70 & over), as well as for the overall gross and net trophies. A three-man team competition, the Sam Ruskin Cup, where players representing the same club compete for the Cup, is also held. To be eligible, players must have a WSGA Handicap Index of 16.4 or less.
