STATEN ISLAND, NY (August 28, 2016) -- One month, one course, two major tournament titles.
Just weeks after winning the Staten Island Amateur at Richmond County Country Club Rodney Stillwell returned to the course and claimed the Staten Island Senior Amateur.
While the world's top pros were playing the Barclays at Bethpage Black Stillwell was battling John Crane for Staten Island supremacy.
Stillwell sprinted out to a 3 up lead before holding on for a 3&2 triumph. On the first hole Stillwell provided everybody with an image of what would come. His drive found the fairway and from there he decided to leave his putter in the bag as he jarred his second shot for an eagle and 1 up lead.
"I heard it go in," Stillwell told Stephen Hart of silive.com. "I knew I had the yardage, and I knew I hit it well. I thought it might be a hair past the pin."
Riding the momentum of his first hole eagle Stillwell took complete control of the match by winning holes 2 and 3.
