PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (November 19, 2006) -- George Weston of Palm Beach and Jim Patrone of Boca Raton combined for a six under par 66 Saturday to win the Sheehan Realty Finale Four-Ball on the General course at PGA National.
Beginning at the 15th hole in the shotgun start and playing three different formats in the penultimate event of the Palm Beach County Golf Association season, Weston and Patrone won by a shot over the 36-team field.
Playing four-ball stroke play, they birdied the 16th hole. Switching to scramble, they birdied Nos. 2, 3, 5 and 6. Then in modified alternate shots, they bogied the eighth and 10th hole and birdied No. 12 before finishing with four-ball birdies at 13 and 14.
Low net with 61 were Larry Rule Sr. of West Palm Beach and Mel Hirsch of Palm Beach Gardens.
The season ends with the Sam Smidt Cup matches Dec. 4 at The Fox Club in Palm City in which the top PBCGA players this year play against the best pros from the Southeast Chapter of the South Florida PGA Section.
During an awards luncheon which followed play, Jim Warters of Ormond Beach, one of the founders of the PBCGA, became the 17th inductee into the association's Hall of Fame. It was a story by Warters in the Palm Beach Post in 1976 asking why a golfing area such as Palm Beach County had no Hall of Fame which served as the impetus for several local golfers to form the association. He later became an executive director on a volunteer basis.
Others honored Saturday were R.J. Nakashian, Palm Beach Gardens, Player of the Year; Gary Mackintosh, Palm City, Senior Player of the Year; and George Andre, Palm Beach Gardens, the Bobby Bryant Award as the Volunteer of the Year.
Thirteen scholarships worth $20,500 were also presented. The recipients were Daniel Chateau, Sarah Deagle, Kelly-Ann Fasano, Greg Gonzales, Madonna March, Joanne Michel, Marie Saintclair, Slande Saintclair, Casey Schrader, Michelle Steakin, Andrew Stirling, Daniel Stirling and Noelle Thear.
