Andy Ogletree, Joseph Cansler share 36-hole Cardinal Amateur lead

GREENSBORO, NC (July 22, 2016) -- Joseph Cansler has joined Andy Ogletree at the top of the Cardinal Amateur leaderboard. Both players are 5-under after 36-holes at Sedgefield Country Club and they will carry a one-stroke lead into the final round.

Georgia Tech commit Andy Ogletree shot a second round even-par 70 to remain at 5-under. Ogletree began his round with consecutive bogeys before birdieing five of the next 12 holes to reach 8-under. Unfortunately, Ogletree was unable to stay there as he double-bogeyed 16 and bogeyed No. 18.

UNC Greensboro junior Joseph Cansler moved into a tie for first place with a 3-under 67 on Saturday to follow up on his first round 68. Cansler birdied four holes during his second round and bogeyed just one. The 2014 East Coast Amateur winner birdied holes 1, 4, 9 and 11.

Future Wake Forest golfer Eric Bae is in solo third at 4-under while U.S. Four-Ball Amateur winner Andrew Buchanan (SMU) and Mark Lawrence (Auburn) share fourth at 2-under.

ROUND ONE RECAP

Georgia Tech commit Andy Ogletree got off to a good with an opening round 5-under 65 at the Cardinal Amateur. Ogletree will carry a two-stroke lead into Saturday's second round.

It was a shaky start with a first hole bogey, but Ogletree got it going with birdies on Nos. 4-6, he did drop a stroke on the 7th before quickly getting it back with a birdie on the eighth to turn in 2-under 33. The strong play continued with four back nine birdies on holes 10, 11, 14 and 15. Ogletree did drop one shot on the way in as he signed for a closing nine 3-under 32.

Keegan Hoff, a senior at Richmond, is alone in second place after a 3-under 67. Hoff birdied four holes and bogeyed one.

Future Wake Forest golfer Eric Bae and Joseph Cansler (UNC Greensboro) are tied for fourth at 2-under while three others are 1-under and in share of fifth place.

ABOUT THE Cardinal Amateur

The Cardinal Amateur, presented by McConnell Golf, is held at the Sedgefield Country Club, Pete Dye Course in Greensboro, NC. 54-hole stroke play tournament. Many former competitors are now on the PGA, Senior PGA and Nationwide tours. The field consists of 78 contestants, chosen among college level and mid-amateurs. Jay Sigel, a winner on the senior tour, has been quoted as saying that the Cardinal Am is one of the finest amateur tournaments in the country and one which he wishes he had won during his amateur career.
