John Axelsen wins South of England Amateur in a Playoff

SURREY, England (July 21, 2016) -- In a playoff John Axelsen was able to win the South of England Amateur. Axelsen, of Denmark, finished 2-under and tied with Joshua Davies following the completion of the final round at Walton Heath Golf Club.

Axelsen put together rounds of 72-72-68-74 to reach the 2-under tally. Davies from Wales, carded 72-hole scores of 74-70-67-75 to make his way to the playoff.

The only other player to finish under-par was Tom Harris (Isle of Man) at 1-under and in third. Jake Burnage (England) was fourth at 1-over while three others shared fifth with a score of 2-over.

The South of England Open Amateur Championship each year attracts a top-class field of amateur golfers from across the world. The 72 hole stroke play event takes place over both the Old and New courses at the famed Walton Heath Golf Club in Tadworth, Surrey and consists of four rounds of golf with a cut after 36 holes.
