Sulman Raza is medalist after Oregon Amateur playoff

WEST LINN, OR (JUNE 21, 2016) -- It took four playoff holes but in the end Sulman Raza earned medalist honors at the 107th Oregon Amateur. Raza will now be the top-seed when the format turns to match play Wednesday at Black Butte Ranch.
Raza, a redshirt senior at Oregon shot rounds of 71-69 to share first place at the end of regulation. After beginning the round three-strokes down, Raza birdied four holes and bogeyed one. The 2016 NCAA Champion rolled in consecutive birdies on the 12th and 13th holes.
Kevin Murphy, a senior at Oregon State began the final qualifying round tied for first before shooting an even-par 72 on Tuesday. Through his first 17 holes Murphy had carded three birdies and a bogey but a double-bogey on the final hole dropped him into a playoff.
Each player parred the first few holes of the playoff before Raza claimed medalist honors with a 4th hole birdie.
First round co-leader Cole Madey finished tied for third at 3-under after a 1-over 73 in the second round.
ROUND ONE QUALIFYING RECAP
Kevin Murphy and Cole Madey opened the Oregon Amateur with 4-under 68's to lead by two-strokes at Black Butte Ranch. Three players are tied for second after 2-under 70's.
Murphy, a senior at Oregon State tallied four birdies, an eagle and two bogeys during his opening round. The birdies came on holes 10, 12, 13 and 18 while the eagle was on the 522 yard par-5 7th hole.
UCLA sophomore Cole Madey played well on the first day with six birdies and two bogeys. Madey carded back-to-back birdies on 2 and 3 while also rolling in birds on 10, 12, 15 and 18.
Justin Wiles, Justin Kadin and Billy Pollock are all 2-under and in third place. Seven other's are 1-under and tied for sixth place.
