Martin Young captures Welsh Mid-Amateur

LLANELLI, Wales (June 10, 2016) -- Englishman Martin Young has won the Welsh Mid-Amateur. Young put together three day scores of 66-68-72 and finished 8-under to win by one shot at Machynys Peninsula Golf Club.

Young opened the tournament with a 6-under 66, to take a first round share of the lead and never looked back on his way to an impressive win. Gareth Sheridan shot three consecutive 69's but fell one stroke short of forcing a playoff finishing at 7-under.

D.J. Westwood and James Bunch both finished 3-under and in a tie for third, Richard Corscadden was fourth at 2-under while three players were fifth at 1-under.

ABOUT THE Welsh Mid Am

This event is part of the MAGT order of merit and is also an R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking event 54 holes stroke play. Open to all male golfers aged over 35 years on tournament start date. Open to golfers from ALL countries and ALL counties. Field limited to 78 players. Handicap limit is 9.4. Handicap must be active. Qualifying competition for handicap purposes.
