Callaway Golf Signs Four Amateur Stars
Carlsbad, CA (June 9, 2016) -- Earlier today the Callaway Golf Company announced the signing of Lee McCoy, Thomas Detry, Matthew NeSmith and Will Starke. All four players will now enter the golf professional ranks.
Lee McCoy, a three-time All-American while at the University of Georgia was recently honored as 2016 first teamer. McCoy has already proven he can compete with the big boys, qualifying for the 2015 U.S. Open and finishing tied for fourth at the 2016 Valspar Championship. McCoy was named the 2016 SEC Player of the Year.
Thomas Detry, the 11th ranked amateur in the world, put together a fantastic career while at the University of Illinois. During his time at Illinois the Illini were one of the top teams in the country thanks in large part to Derty's play. Last year Detry was the 2015 Big Ten Golfer of the Year and this year he won the Big Ten individual championship. In five ranking events throughout the 2015-2016 college season Detry never finished outside the top-10.
The 8th ranked amateur in the world Matt NeSmith, out of the University of South Carolina, has also joined the Callaway Golf team. NeSmith had a banner year in 2015, winning the SEC Championship and capturing All-American honors. NeSmith had a successful final season at South Carolina winning twice and garnering First Team All-American honors. During the 2015-2016 season NeSmith competed in five ranking events, finishing in the top-five three times.
The final player introduced by Callaway today was another former Gamecock, Will Starke. In 2015 Starke was an All-American and in April he earned full status on the Canadian Tour for 2016 after making it out of the Mackenzie Tour Q-School.
Each player will be playing a full bag of Callaway equipment and a Odyssey Putter.
