SPARTANBURG, SC (May 27, 2016) - After the first two rounds of match play at the Country Club of Spartanburg, upsets and large victories were the story of the day as both the #1 and #2 seeds were knocked out of contention.

In the morning matches, the Medalist Team of Zach Herold and Bryce Miley posted a 2 Up victory over Briar Herd and Hunter Parks to move on. The 31st seed team of Taylor Ingle and Chris Mitchell defeated first round leaders Josh Branyon and Kyle Milner with a 5 & 4 victory after playing 13 holes 11 under par. One match went into extra holes as the team of Garland Ferrell and Marcus Grumbles defeated Brandon Bradosky and Bryan Kelley after Grumbles drove the green on the Par 4 – 11th Hole and Eagled to win 1 Up. In all, nine of the sixteen matches never made it to the 16th hole.

In the afternoon, the matches were a little closer with only one big win as the Ziefert and Woodard team advanced with a 5 & 3 win. 2012 Four Ball Champions, Walt Todd, Jr and Brandon Truesdale managed a 2 & 1 finish over the veteran team of Jarrett Grimes and John O’Brien. Once again, Ferrell and Grumbles needed extra holes as Grumbles drained a nine foot putt for birdie to beat the brother team of Robert and David Dargan.

Quarter finals will begin on Saturday morning beginning at 8.00 a.m. Semi-final matches will follow in the afternoon.

ABOUT THE South Carolina Four-Ball

The Four Ball Championship is a great attraction as it has become the only Match Play event that the South Carolina Golf Association conducts. With 60 teams starting play, after two days of stroke play qualifying, 32 teams will advance to match play to square off against each other until there is only one team left.

By virtue of being one of the few Match Play events available in South Carolina, this is a great opportunity to play in a format that used to dominate tournament golf.
