GALLATIN, TN (May 26, 2016) - Jason Millard of Murfreesboro, TN shot a final round 69 to finish with a three day total of 16-under par to claim the 68th Annual SunTrust State Open Championship by four strokes over amateur Dawson Armstrong (Lipscomb University) of Brentwood, TN. Millard’s opening round of 10-under par 62 at The Club At Fairvue Plantation provided him with a four stroke lead which he never relinquished. Millard’s victory also came with a low professional check for $10,000.

Runner-Up Dawson Armstrong fired a 6-under-par 66 in today’s final round following his impressive second round 7-under par 65 to claim Low Amateur honors with a 54-hole score of 204. Armstrong, the reigning Western Amateur champion, cut Millard’s lead to three on the final nine, but was unable to close the gap and challenge the lead.

The Tennessee State Open Championship was first played in 1949. Pat Abbott of Memphis won with a score of 211 at Belle Meade Country Club in Nashville, TN. Mason Rudolph is the leader with a total of six State Open Championships. Gibby Gilbert Jr. holds the record for the most consecutive championships, 3, from 1988, 1989, and 1990.
