Alabama Four-Ball: Trip Smalley and Matt Ritchie hold 18-hole qualifying lead
MONTOGERY, AL (April 28, 2016) - With a first round qualifying score of 9-under 63 Trip Smalley and Matt Ritchie have taken the first round lead at the 34th Alabama State Four-Ball Championship. The duo fired a bogey-free first round that included seven birdies and a 9th hole eagle.

Steve Hudson and Robert Nelson are currently in second place after a first round 7-under 65. Two teams are presently tied for third thanks to 6-under 66's.

Play in the 34th Alabama State Four-Ball will continue tomorrow morning with the second day of qualifying. Following the final putt tomorrow the field will be trimmed to 16 teams with the round of 16 and quarterfinals set to be played Saturday. Tournament play will conclude on Sunday with the semifinals and championship matches.

It should be an exciting day of play tomorrow with multiple teams attempting to qualify for the weekend.

ABOUT THE Alabama Four-Ball

36 holes of gross four-ball stroke play to determine 16 sides for match play. Entries are open to sides of male amateur golfers who are legal residents of Alabama and have an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club. Maximum allowable combined team handicap is 16.8 under the USGA Handicap System™. Two players who play as partners comprise a side. Partners are not required to be from the same club.
