PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (Sept 13, 2006) -- On the strength of three rounds in the 60s, Mark Miller and Herb Jensen captured the Senior Four Ball Championship at Poppy Hills.

The duo, from Lone Tree and Del Paso CC respectively, established a one-stroke lead after the second round, firing an impressive nine-under-par 63. The final round was more of the same, the team's 66 score - punctuated by a Miller eagle on the final hole leading to a 20-under 196 total and a seven-stroke win.

The win represents the first NCGA championship for both players. The victory also gave Miller a firmer hold on a place within the top ten of the NCGA Senior Points list (the top ten receive exemptions into 2007 events, the top 14 receive an invitation to participate in the Hanna-Wehrman Cup, the annual match between the NCGA and NCPGA players). Jensen moved up eight places into a tie for 11th place with just a few weeks left in the season.

Runners-up Bob Rowland and Jeff Early of Castlewood and third-place finishers Lou Alvarez (Black Oak) and Shelton Washburn shared the first-round lead, but were unable to keep up with the hot Miller/Jensen pairing. Rowland, the leading contender for the Senior NCGA Player of the Year award, added a runner-up finish to an already stellar year that includes a win at the NCGA Senior Championship and a third-place finish at the State Senior. Rowland's partner, Jeff Early, had to make a quick exit to catch a flight to the U.S. Senior Amateur at Victoria National in Indiana

Defending champions Rob Thompson of Merced and Bob Berg of Riverview finished in a tie for fifth.
