It was an exciting finish in both the Senior and Super Senior Championships of the Doug Oswald Tournament which was played at the Ocala Golf Club.
In the Senior Championship Crystal River’s Tim Hume came from behind to claim the title. Hume trailed the leaders by four shots heading to the last round but fired a final round 7-under-par 65 This gave Hume a 2-day scores of 138. The 6-under-par score was enough to edge out Robert Parker (Orlando), Kelly Gosse (Inverness) and Jerry Slagle (Dallas, Texas) by one shot. Bobby Johnson finished fifth and Dave Falcone finished sixth.
After regulation play in the Super Senior Division two golfers stood at the top of the leaderboard in a tie. Larry VanderBie (Brooksville) and Dick Clemen (Tampa) were both shot 6-under-par 138 scores and headed into a sudden-death playoff. On the first playoff hole both players hit the green with VanderBie the closer of the two. Clemen just missed his birdie attempt and VanderBie rolled his put in the hole for the win.
Finishing in third place was Berger Warner who shot a final round 4-under-par 68 and a two-day score of 143. Finishing in a tie for fourth place were Randy Briggs, Brian Sachs and Joe Lukasik with 144 scores.
