SUNDAY RIVER, Maine (Sept 10, 2006) -- Joe Alvarez of Penobscot Valley Country Club capped a summer of great golf with his first major victory by garnering the crystal at the Maine Mid-Amateur Championship, a 36-hole event for players 25 years of age and older, that was contested this weekend at Sunday River.

Alvarez was even par -- helped out by a hole in one on the fourth hole Saturday -- entering the second day of the tournament, then held off a charge by Mike Nowak for a four-shot victory.

Please find below complete results of the Maine Mid-Amateur Championship and thank you very much for your continued support of Maine golf.
