PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — The NCPGA is looking to make it four straight Staedler-Jetter Senior Cup titles after taking a 4-3 lead over the NCGA through the morning alternate shot matches. Casey Boyns/Dale Bouguennec, Scott Anderson/Steve Wilson and NCGA Super Senior Player of the Year Herb Jenson and Dennis Younglove all notched wins for the NCGA.
Rod Souza/Chris Bitticks, Mike Cook/Michael Paul, Scott Hoyt/Dana Jetter and Shawn Kelly/Shawn McEntee all picked up wins for the NCPGA.
In the afternoon Four-Ball matches, the NCGA briefly caught the NCPGA with an opening win from Chuck Richesin and Bob Thomason. But the senior professionals stormed back to win the next three matches (Glen Stubblefield/Larry Babica, Mike Cook/Michael Paul and Tim Huber/John Grund). After the Gary Vanier/Terry Foreman vs. Scott Hoyt/Dana Jetter match was halved, the two sides split the final two contests, leaving the overall status at NCPGA 7.5 – NCGA 6.5.
With only one point separating the two sides, Tuesday’s 14 singles matches will certainly produce fireworks at Poppy Hills.
