ROCKY FACE, Ga. — Going bogey-free with two back-nine eagles on Friday was Georgia Tech sophomore Jacob Joiner as the Yellow Jackets lead by three at the Carpet Capital Collegiate.
Playing The Farm Golf Club, where the defending ACC champion Yellow Jackets have hosted this event since 1989, Tech posted 2-under 286 during the first round looking to win the event for their eighth time.
2014 winners LSU are five shots back in fourth place, led by incoming freshman Sam Burns and his opening-round 69, which included a string of three birdies in a row on the front nine. Meanwhile, Alabama and South Carolina are tied for second place at 1-over par 289, three ahead of the Tigers.
Joiner's first round leads individually by three over Burns, as well as Crimson Tide golfers Davis Riley (freshman) and Tom Lovelady (senior).
