Iowa Senior Am: 45 Ft. Chip Nets Aossey Title
MASON CITY, Iowa (August 27, 2006) -- Sam Aossey holed a 45-foot chip shot on the final hole to win the Iowa Senior Amateur Championship by one shot over Stu Parr. Aossey's birdie on the last gave him a final round 72 and the title. Parr closed with a 71 to put the heat on Aossey.
Aossey's final four holes certainly did not lack excitement. He struggled throughout the 15th hole before holing a 10-footer for bogey. Then on the par-3 16th he short-sided himself off the tee and hit a pitch that settled approximately 35 feet from the hole. He promptly holed that for par. After a routine par on 17, Aossey was in prime position after two shots on the par-5 18th. His third came up about 10 yards short of the putting surface setting the stage for his chip-in birdie and the win.
Finishing in a tie for third were Gary Engle and Robb Pomerantz. For complete results, click on the "see also" link at the top of the page and follow the "results" tab.
