CRESWELL, Ore. — Randy Mahar (Portland, Ore.) and Debbie Friede (Washougal, Wash.) earned medalist honors in their respective divisions in stroke play qualifying at the 32nd Oregon Senior Amateur Championship, commencing August 24-27 at Emerald Valley Golf and Resort in Creswell, Ore.

Monday featured 18-hole stroke play qualifying for both the Men’s and Women’s Divisions. The top 32 scores in the Men’s Division will face off in the Championship Flight, with the Round-of-32 and Round-of-16 matches being played Tuesday. In the Women’s Championship Flight, the quarterfinals and semifinals will be played on Tuesday.

Mahar finished as the only player under par on Monday, firing a 2-under par 70 to win medalist honors by two shots. Defending champion Pat O’Donnell (Happy Valley, Ore.) exercised his right to be the No. 2 seed in the Championship Flight bracket.

In the Women’s Division, Friede, the 2012 Oregon Senior Women’s champion, came back from a 4-over par 40 on the front nine to post four birdies on the back side, ending up with a 34 and shooting 2-over par 74 on Monday. Lisa Smego (Olympia, Wash.) shot a 3-over par 75, one shot back of Friede, and Leilani Norman (Eugene, Ore.) fired a 4-over par 76.

Defending champion Loree McKay (Hillsboro, Ore.) also exercised her right to the No. 2 seed in the Women’s Championship bracket.
