Florida Mid-Senior: its Rooney after two rounds
NAPLES, FL (August 19, 2006) -- After 36 holes, Patrick Rooney Jr., of West Palm Beach, holds a one stroke advantage with a two-round total of 4-under par 140. Rooney fired a 4-under par 68 on the South Course at the Club at Mediterra in the first round and posted even par in the second round to jump in front of the field. First round leader and 2003 Mid-Senior Champion Paul Melson, of Plantation, recorded a 74 in the second round to fall into a tie for second place heading into the final round. Melson led after the first round firing a 5-under par 67. Bret Voisin, of Orlando, is tied with Melson at a two-round total of 141. Voisin shot even par in the first round and fired a 69 in the second round to remain in contention. Three players including 2005 Senior Player-of-the-Year Rick Woulfe, of Fort Lauderdale, are tied for fourth place with a 143 two-round total.
To be eligible for the Mid-Senior Championship, players must be 40 years of age or older. The Championship consists of 54 holes of stroke play cut to the low 70 plus ties after 36 holes. The first two rounds were played on the Cypress Course at Bonita Bay East and the South Course at Mediterra. The final round will be played on the Cypress Course at Bonita Bay East.
