FAR HILLS, N.J. — Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis, Mo., has been selected by the United States Golf Association (USGA) as the host site for the 2016 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship, to be contested Sept. 17-22.

“The USGA is pleased to bring another championship to a club with a proven history of supporting amateur golf,” said Diana Murphy, USGA vice president and Championship Committee chairman. “Old Warson will provide a great test of golf for these seasoned players, and we are confident it will be an outstanding venue for the 62nd U.S. Senior Amateur, which will be the 20th USGA championship contested in Missouri.”

This will be the third USGA championship contested at Old Warson, which was designed by architect Robert Trent Jones Sr., and opened in 1954. The club hosted the 1999 U.S. Mid-Amateur, won by Danny Green, and the 2009 U.S. Women’s Amateur, won by Jennifer Song.

“Old Warson Country Club is delighted to have been selected to host the 2016 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship,” said Mark Merlotti, Old Warson Country Club president. “We have a proud history of welcoming USGA championships and qualifying events, in addition to other significant tournaments and competitions. Being selected to host such a prestigious event is a testimony to the quality and reputation of our Robert Trent Jones-designed golf course, our world-class staff and the dedication of our membership.”

Old Warson also hosted the 1971 Ryder Cup Matches (won by the United States, 18½-13½), the 1962 Trans-Mississippi Men’s Championship and the 1957 Western Amateur. Other events contested at Old Warson include several Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association championships, as well as Missouri Golf Association and St. Louis Men’s and Women’s District Golf Association championships.

The U.S. Senior Amateur is open to amateur golfers who have reached age 55 on or before the start of the championship and who have a Handicap Index® not exceeding 7.4. The championship features 36 holes of stroke-play qualifying before the field is cut to the low 64 scorers for the match-play portion.

The 2015 U.S. Senior Amateur will be contested Sept. 26-Oct. 1 at Hidden Creek Golf Club in Egg Harbor Township, N.J. The 2017 championship will be played Aug. 26-31 at the Minikahda Club, in Minneapolis, Minn. The 2018 championship will be played Aug. 25-30 at Eugene (Ore.) Country Club.
