Hughes, Oxford lead early at Georgia Four-Ball
VALDOSTA, Ga. — Philip Hughes of Kennesaw and Matt Oxford of Rocky Face fired a 7-under-par 65 in round one to lead the Georgia Four-Ball Tournament. The 27th edition of this event is taking place at both Valdosta Country Club and Kinderlou Forest Golf Club, March 27-29.

Two strokes back of the leaders at 5-under-par 67 are Matt Kubis of Norcross and John Riordan of Duluth. A team from McDonough, Michael Standard and Scot Ward, are third at 4-under-par 68.

Over at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club, Daniel Cobb and Mike Raines, Sr., both of Marietta, lead flight four at 3-under-par 69. Two teams share the lead in flight five at 1-over-par 73, including Clint Carter of Atlanta and Bob Wilson of Johns Creek, and Al Adcock of Woodstock and Paul Terry of Acworth. In flight six, Johnny Faulk of Kennesaw and Randy Hewatt of Marietta posted a 2-over-par 74. Three teams lead the seventh flight at 9-over-par 81: Jim Billingsley of Loganville and Robby Grider of Statham; Steve Gurley of Macon and John Sink of Juliette; Steve Blair of Gainesville and Bud Chandler of Flowery Branch.

Entries were open to two-man teams of male amateur golfers who belong to a GSGA member club and have combined USGA Handicap Indexes of 4.0 and above and a maximum differential of six strokes. The Championship through third flights are competing at Valdosta Country Club, while flights four through seven play at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.
