2015 Texas South Mid-Amateur Preview
DALLAS, Texas — Lakecliff Country Club in
Spicewood is set to host the 2015 Texas South

Conducted by the Texas Golf Association, the
championship is open to male amateur golfers
25 years of age or older by the first round of
tournament play, have a certified GHIN Handicap
Index of 8.4 or less, and reside in the South
Texas region. The TGA uses the 31st parallel in
Salado as the delineation between the North and
South regions.
The format for the South Mid-Amateur is 54
holes of individual stroke play with no cut.
Both the winner and runner-up, if eligible, earn
exemptions into this year’s Texas Amateur which
will be contested June 18-21 at Bent Tree
Country Club in Dallas. Additionally, the top
three finishers and ties will receive automatic
exemptions into Texas Mid-Amateur to be played
September 25-27 at Royal Oaks Country Club,
also in Dallas.
Opened in 2001, Lakecliff Country Club was
designed by Arnold Palmer. Nestled against the
banks of Lake Travis, the course stretches to
6,754 yards and plays to a par 71. The scenic
layout has a great combination of long and short
holes surrounded by lakes and streams, and five
par 3s that test a player’s ball-striking ability.
Among the notable players in the 2015 starting
field are Mike Booker of The Woodlands, two-
time TGA Senior Player of the Year; John
Dowdall of Fulshear, two-time TGA South
Regional Player of the Year; and Jess Bonneau of
Houston, 2014 U.S. Public Links semifinalist and
winner of the 2011 Texas Mid-Amateur Match
