Bakersfield City Championship: Baguio Defends Title
Bakersfield, CA (July 30, 2006) -- Local resident Brady Baguio became the second player in tournament history to defend his title on Sunday at the Bakersfield City Championship. Baguio, who plays for the golf team of CSU Bakersfield, faced a 2-stroke deficit with nine holes to play on Sunday, as incoming Fresno State freshman Grant Doverstrike was playing error free golf (Doverstrike's final total would have won most Bakersfield City titles).
Baguio, coming off a front nine of 34, carded a 6-under-par 30 on the back nine to overtake Doverstrike, and nearly matched the tournament scoring record of 130 posted by Dale Keene in 2002. First round leader Bhavik Patel, who will be a Junior in High School this fall, slid to a second round 75 on Sunday. Patel recently tied for 2nd in the SCGA Amateur, played at Bakersfield Country Club.
