BRYAN, Texas (Oct. 18, 2014) — The North Team will enter the final day of matches at the Texas Shootout with a slim 19-17 lead over the South Team after the first day of foursome and four-ball matches. Captained by John Bearrie, the North Team finished their matches with strong back nines in the morning and afternoon. This year’s Ryder Cup style matches are hosted at Miramont Country Club in Bryan.

The afternoon four-ball matches saw the South Team rally after being down from the morning. Mike Booker, the South Team captain, was able to cut into the North lead with the South picking up 9.5 points to the North’s 8.5. The afternoon’s hot hand was the duo of Jess Bonneau/John Hunter who won all three points.

The morning foursome matches saw the South Team take an early lead as four of the matches earned points after the opening nine holes. Only the duo of Zach Atkinson/Brad Gibson earned the front nine point for the North Team. The senior match between Jerry Hudgins/Mike Peck and Bob Kearney/Mike Booker halved the front nine point. The South Team earned 4.5 points to the North Team’s 1.5 as the matches headed to the back nine.

The back nine saw the North Team storm back and take control of the morning matches by collecting four of the six points and taking five of the six points for the overall to take a 10.5 to 7.5 lead heading into the afternoon.

The final day will consist of 12 singles matches with a possible 36 points up for grabs. A team needs 36.5 points to win the Texas Shootout.

The format for the Shootout Matches are the top eight mid-amateurs and four seniors from the north region and the south region in foursome, four-ball and singles matches. The Nassau scoring system allows for a team to earn one point for the front nine, one point for the back nine and one point for the overall match.
