SCGA Affiliate Team: Member's Club rallies to win

PRIMM VALEY, NV (July 18, 2006) -- The Coleys, who were tied for third coming into today's Pinehurst alternate shot format, won with a three-stroke lead over Renegade Golf Club Team 1's Bryan Davis and Greg Mayberry (65-66--131). West Coast's Bret Taylor and Rob Warren secured third after a card-off at 132, while Hobo Golf Association Terry Wright and John Kistner took fourth. After another card-off, Pacific Coast's Ernie Gomez and John Campregher collected fifth at a 9-under 133.

"We saved strokes today, we had three or four saving par putts," elder Don said. "We were always in the hole, but we like the Pinehurst format and it puts a lot of pressure on us, which is good."

The win is the first for the team. Defending champions California Air Guard Rec came in 38th with scores of 73-74--147.

ABOUT THE Southern California Affiliate Team

The tournament is open to two-person teams, with both players members of the same SCGA Affiliate club, and each having established full, active current indexes not exceeding 24.4.

If the size of the field is not complete (64 teams) by the date of the entry deadline, the SCGA will allow a second team from an affilliate club, by date of entry receipt, to enter. Clubs should, therefore, be sure to designate which is the No. 1 team and the No. 2 team on entry forms they submit.

Tues., — 18 holes, Four-Ball net stroke play. Wed., — 18 holes, Pinehurst net stroke play.

HANDICAPS: On Day 1, individual players will play to 80% of their course handicap. In the Four-Ball competition only, handicap spread restriction of 5 strokes is imposed on teams. Although players may not “play down” to meet the maximum current index of 24.4, they must “play down” to meet the maximum 5- stroke handicap spread between team members. On Day 2, 20% of the higher handicap player plus 50% of the lower handicap player will determine the team’s handicap. Each partner drives from each tee, then plays the second shot with the other’s ball. After the second shot, the team chooses which ball it will use to complete the hole, hitting alternate shots. Handicap is deducted from team score at the end of the round.
