Duck Head becomes presenting sponsor of Southern Golf Association events
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Oct. 7, 2014) — Duck Head has been named as Official Partner and Outfitter of the Southern Golf Association. The agreement also designates that Duck Head is the Official Partner and Official Outfitter of the SGA Southern Amateur, SGA Southern Junior and SGA Southern States Four Ball.

"The SGA is very proud to have Duck Head, a brand synonymous with the South, partner with us," said SGA President Clarke Rheney. "Being one of the top eight amateur events in the world, it is a natural fit for another elite brand to sponsor the Southern Amateur. We look forward to a long relationship with Duck Head."

Added Duck Head President and CEO Tom Nolan: "The SGA is rich in tradition, heritage and authenticity. These are the traits that we believe in as an organization and as individuals, It just makes sense that these two southern icons partner together to help make one another better.

"We look forward to a long-standing relationship that will further promote high-quality amateur golf and grow the game, both of which are very close to my heart.”

Duck Head's role as primary sponsor will be prominently noted in all SGA news releases, the SGA web site and in signage at all SGA championships.

Drawing on its rich history in the south, Duck Head represents a key partner to the SGA, an organization that began in 1902. It is recognized by the United States Golf Association as a leader committed to advancing amateur golf and continuing to serve more than 500 member clubs in the traditional 14 southern states.

Duck Head's partnership with the SGA reinforces the brand's dedication to quality and authenticity. Since 1865, Duck Head has defined excellence in quality and has been the epitome of southern sensibility. From outfitting country music icon Hank Williams to helping create khaki pants in the U.S. Duck Head will continue to define the southern lifestyle and the American dream with stylish and durable apparel that is made to be worn..

Now it embarks as presenting sponsor beginning with the 2015 SGA championships, highlighted by the venerable 109th Southern Amateur slated next July at Old Waverly Club in West Point, Miss.

ABOUT THE Southern Amateur

The Southern Amateur, which dates back to 1902, is one of two competitions held by the Southern Golf Association. (The other is the Southern Junior.) Its champions roster is like a who’s who’s of competitive golf. (And the same could be said of the standing of its host clubs.) Leading this group is Robert T. Others who have won or finished in a challenging position and gone on to national and/or international prominence include Tommy Barnes, Dale Morey, Don January, Gay Brewer, Doug Sanders, Billy Joe Patton, Lew Oehmig, Hubert Green, Downing Gray, Marvin (Vinny) Giles, Lanny Wadkins, Steve Melnyk, Tom Kite, John Mahaffey, Ben Crenshaw, Gary Koch, Bill Rogers, Gil Morgan, Danny Edwards, Andy Bean, Vance Haefner, Jerry Pate, Chip Beck, David Edwards, Jay Sigel, Bob Tway, Mark Brooks, Gene Sauers, Davis Love, Justin Leonard and more recently PGA Tour standouts Webb Simpson and Kyle Stanley, who won twice each between 2005 and 2008 in alternate years.
