Doug Banks wins playoff, will be top-seed at Oregon Senior Amateur
MOLALLA, Ore. (Sept. 22, 2014) — Doug Banks
(Tualatin, Ore.) earned
medalist honors in the Men’s Division, while
defending champion Leilani
Norman (Eugene, Ore.) won stroke play
qualifying in the Women’s
Division at the 31st Oregon Senior Amateur
Championship, held at
Arrowhead Golf Club in Molalla, Ore.
Monday’s round included 18 holes of stroke play
qualifying. Match play
begins tomorrow and extends until Thursday for
the Women’s Division,
and Friday for the Men’s Division.
Banks defeated Randy Mahar (Portland, Ore.) in
a one-hole playoff to
earn the top spot in the Championship Flight in
the Men’s Division. Both
players fired rounds of 3-under par 68. In the
playoff, which was held
on the 487 yard par-5 first hole, both players hit
their drives in the
fairway. Mahar pushed his second shot into the
sand trap short and
right of the green, while Banks fired his shot just
over the green and a
short chip away from the hole. Mahar missed a
five foot putt for par,
while Banks made his three footer for birdie to
win the playoff.
Defending champion Scott Hval (Portland, Ore.)
will receive the second
seed in the Championship Flight. Alex Foster
(Beaverton, Ore.) fired a
1-under par 70, and was only one of three
players to fire an under-par
score on Monday. Mike Gustafson (Eugene,
Ore.), Jon Carey
(Monmouth, Ore.) and Tom Prevost (McMinnville,
Ore.) all shot 71 (E)
during stroke play qualifying.
In the Women’s Division, Norman fired the low
round with a 2-over par
73. After an even par 35 on the front nine,
Norman bogeyed three of
the first five holes on the back nine before
making birdie on the 17th
hole, ending with a 2-over par 38 on the second
nine. Loree McKay
(Hillsboro, Ore.) earned the second seed in the
championship, firing a
4-over par 75. Charisse Spada (Portland, Ore.)
finished qualifying with
a 76 (+5), while Anita Wicks (Roseburg, Ore.)
shot 78 (+7) and Darci
Trimmer (Vancouver, Wash.) fired an 83 (+12).

ABOUT THE Oregon Senior Amateur
Entries are open to male and female amateur
golfers 50 years of age or older with USGA
Handicap Indexes of 18.1 or less and who are
members in
good
standing of an OGA member club. The field will be
limited to the lowest 96 qualified men. The
defending
champion and 31 finishers from the 18-hole stroke
play qualifier will advance to the single elimination
Championship flight match play portion of the
competition, with the remaining entrants placed in
single elimination match play flights according to
score. There will be NO age bracket flights.
