Sherlin maintains lead at Alabama Mid-Amateur
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (Sept. 20, 2014) — Montgomery resident Stan Sherlin continues to lead the 26th Alabama State Mid-Amateur Championship at Montgomery Country Club after the second round. He has fired rounds of 65-72--137, for three-under-par over the par 70 layout.

This 54-hole championship is conducted at stroke play by the Alabama Golf Association and will conclude on Sunday.

Sherlin has won this championship twice before, in 1997 and '98, as well as both the State Four Ball (with John Coles III) and the State Senior Four Ball (with Joey Holley).

He maintains a three shot lead over defending champion Torrie Coghlin of Irondale (69-71--140) and Birmingham's Vic Kyatt III (71-69--140). Scottsboro's Robson Copenhaver is in fourth alone after rounds of 68-74--142.

Sherlin was cruising along in his second round with birdies on Nos. 2 and 12 before a run of double-bogey, bogey, bogey on holes 14-16 brought him back closer to the field.

The cut came at 15-over-par 155. The leaders tee off No. 1 at 8:51 on Sunday.
