Arnold, Politi take South Carolina Senior Better-Ball
SANTEE, S.C. (September 7, 2014) — Weather and good golf were the story at the 41st Annual South Carolina Senior Better-Ball Championship as Kevin Arnold and Dave Politi of Hilton Head won the championship in a sudden death playoff over Mike Gravley (Greer) and Walter Odiorne (Columbia).
The teams started the day three shots behind first-round leaders Richard Moore and Jim Eskew, but four under par 68's by both tandems propelled them into a playoff.
Sunday’s and Saturday’s rounds each experienced over 2.5 hours of weather delays but the players’ kept their patience and determination, as Kevin Arnold rolled in a 15 foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to claim the championship.
Four teams finished just one shot out of the playoff; providing yet another successful and competitive championship held at Santee Cooper Country Club (hosting for the 40th year).
This is Arnold and Politi’s first Senior Better Ball Championship in only their second appearance (the pair finished tied for third in last year’s event).
