Widner goes back-to-back at Indiana Mid-Amateur
-Story courtesy of the Indiana Golf AssociationLEESBURG, Ind. (August 15, 2014) — Brett Widner headed to the final round of the Indiana Mid-Amateur Championship with a one shot lead and never looked back. Carding a 3-under-par, 67 today at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club, Widner defended his title for his fifth win in 12 months.
"I drove the ball really well this week, which is a huge key to my game," said Widner. "The golf course is in perfect shape and the greens are so good that every putt you have you feel like you can realistically make it."
Widner finished the event at 7-under-par for a two day total of 133. Playing with Ricky Jones and Joe Hayden who began the day just one shot behind, and Mike Bell who trailed by two, Widner came out of the gate hot with three birdies in his first four holes. From that point forward, his lead continued to grow.
