Texas South Amateur: Sanders has one-stroke lead
KERRVILLE, Texas (August 9, 2014) – Jordan Sanders continued his steady play Saturday with his second 3-under-par 69 at the South Amateur Championship presented by Club Champion.
Through 36 holes, Sanders holds a narrow lead over first round co-leader John Dowdall headed into Sunday’s final round at The Club at Comanche Trace. Sanders, from Cedar Park, began his day on the back nine of the Creeks course and made 10 straight pars to start his round.
Over his final eight holes on the Hills course Sanders recorded three birdies, two bogeys and eagled the par-5 fourth hole for the second straight day.
He enters the final round at 6-under 138. Fulshear’s Dowdall began on the Hills course and was hot from the start with five birdies in his opening nine holes to turn at 5-under 31.
Those turned out to be his only five birdies of the day. Coupled with three bogeys on his final nine holes, they allowed for Dowdall to post a 2-under 70. He heads to the final round at 5-under 139.
Jimmy Keener of San Antonio was part of the four-way tie for first heading into day two. He played even-par golf on Saturday and sits at 3-under 141.
Keener’s second round included one birdie, one eagle and three bogeys. Ed Sanchez, also from San Antonio, followed his opening round 71 with a colorful second round even-par 72. His day included five birdies, three bogeys and one double bogey.
Hondo’s Adam Lowe and Logan Boatner of Humble will each enter the final round at even-par 144 after two days.
