Stollenwerck leads by one after first round at North Texas Amateur
PLANO, Texas (August 8, 2014) — John Stollenwerck of Dallas fired a 4-under-par 68 in the first round and leads the North Amateur Championship by one stroke at the Traditions Course at Watters Creek.
Stollenwerck was able to bounce back from a bogey on his first hole, the par 4 10th , and made birdie on his third, fifth, 11th, 13th and 16th holes to finish at 4-under.
"I hit lots of three woods today," said Stollenwerck, "I played well after that three putt on No. 10."
Hunter Shattuck trails Stollenwerck by one stroke heading into the second round of this Texas Golf Association regional event. Shattuck was 5-under with five holes left to play, but bogeys on Nos. 6 and 7 bumped the McLennan Community College golfer back to 3-under.
Jose Pablo Rolz and Brad Gibson are tied for third at 2-under, while Ted Waldrip, Austin Alaniz and Austin King are tied for fifth at 1-under.
"It was a pretty uneventful 2-under," Gibson said, "I birdied No. 17 and hit the ball alright today."
Joshua Irving, Jordan Brown, John Bearrie and Alexander Rodriguez are tied for eighth at even par.

Eligibility: Entries are open to male amateur
golfers who are 25 years of age or older by the
tournament start date and residing in the
North Texas region as defined by the Texas
PGA Sections (North of 31 degree parallel,
Salado TX and north is break point).
Applicants must have a certified USGA
Handicap Index of 8.4 or less.
Format: 54 holes Stroke Play. No Cut.
Field limit: 81 players
