Michigan Championship: Ryan Johnson holds second-round lead
ROYAL OAK, Mich. (August 4, 2014) -- Ryan Johnson shot a second-round 68 on Monday to vault up the leaderboard and hold a one-stroke advantage heading into the final day.
The players competed for 36 holes Monday at Red Run Golf Club, and Evan Bowser took the morning lead after a first-round 68, but fell back with a 73 in the afternoon for a three-under 141 total.
Johnson found himself four back through 18 holes with his first-round 72, but heated up in the afternoon. He made four birdies, two bogeys, and an eagle on the par-five ninth hole.
Josh Heinze is tied with Bowser for second place. He fired the low round of the tournament in the afternoon, a five-under 67 that included six birdies and a lone bogey.
The tournament cut the field to the low 30 players and ties after Monday's second round. 33 players finished at five-over 149 or better, and will play Tuesday's final round.
